Possibilities of (and for) a Flash-like environment for Java
What if, instead of having to write a mile of code to draw a simple square, you could just draw a square. No mess of code, two minutes saved, and you don't have to keep a reference open at all times. One thing I've always felt Java was missing was an environment where simple programs could be made easily by inexperienced users, without holding down the more experienced with limitations and a language that devours system resources, a la Flash. It would bring Java to more people and allow for an even richer web experience for everyone, without that nasty, lag-inducing flash butting in. Flash holds all the cards with the inexperienced users because it makes itself available and easy enough for the inexperienced user. I feel that Java should start as a mostly graphical interface, then slowly ease you into the code as your projects become more complex, helping along the way. The ability to draw and animate simple objects entirely graphically is an ability I think that Java would greatly benefit from, perhaps as an addition to a pre-existing IDE, or as the main feature of a brand new (free, of course
) IDE. I'm starting this thread in this forum to collect ideas on what it should do, I'm a java noob, and I had no idea where else to put it
. If you have any ideas where to start, I'd love to hear them. And DON'T start with "L34R|\| j4\/4, |\|00B" I KNOW that

Java isn't about drawing squares. Read through some of the threads in the different sections of these and other forums and you'll see why
isn't at all a priority for the developers of the language and API.The ability to draw and animate simple objects entirely graphically
That said, I'm sure there are many tools written in Java that allow you to do just that. If you can't find one that does exactly what you want, you can write your own.
