Ok, now I am disappointed. Why are the rules regarding signatures so Draconian? Not only would I like to add more than two lines I would like to add more than one link. I have noticed that this limit does not apply to moderators. For some rules it makes sense, but I don't see why a moderator should be able to have different signatures than anyone else.

This is a technical forum, so we don't have a lot of room for animated gif signatures, quotes, personal stuff, etc.

I know that's not what you're looking for, but without these rules, this forum would quickly start looking more like myspace than a place to exchange technical information.

Somebody higher up the food chain might have a differing opinion, but I like keeping signatures as short as possible.

I understand that. But I just wanted to have a couple more links or some personal recommendations on what I consider good Java practices books, etc. If that were inappropriate for me then I would expect it would be inappropriate for everyone, including moderators. But it is certainly not a big deal nor would it keep me from participating in the forum.

It's not a decision I can make; that happens at the administrative level. But the thought is probably that moderators have proven that they aren't going to spam or post myspace-style signatures that are longer than the posts themselves. I'm not saying you personally would do those things, but if we open the "expanded" signatures to everyone, it'll quickly degrade into a spam-fest and make the forum much worse. Trust me- half a moderator's job is dealing with spam posts so regular users never have to see them.

You could send a message to JavaForums, the administrator, and ask for an expanded signature. Or you could just keep up the good work and wait to become a moderator. :)

PS- I see you're in Northern Virginia. Me too! Maybe we're neighbors.

Ha! 50% dealing with spam, 30% refusing to do homework, 15% moving posts to the correct forum, and the rest for actually helping?
