Define the problem arena.
I have not used Eclipse, plenty of folks will be available to help you on that. I can state clearly and concisely that your Project First Day is discussion of what problem domains your proposed language is likely to or intends to address. General Use and We Don't Know yet are both totally acceptable answers. Another area to address is how Algorithm Savy your coder is expected to be. Do we want a slap some icons around the screen, drag some mice by the feet and Wowie-Zowie .... It Runs!
Do we want a textual programming, as in keyboard like I am doing here? Is this Busniess/Industrial/Accounting & Warehousing? Is it Student or Prototyping work that is intended, it is totally acceptable to say that you are making the project for your own learning but we still need to identifiy Programming for General Case vis-a-vis Specialized Domains where established practices from decades of existing work may draw roadmaps and provide design ideas.
Compiler writing is standard computer science.
