Eclipse with the newest version of JDK SE

Hi all

I'm a real newbie to Java, and I'm trying to run Eclipse on my computer. I went to java.sun.com and downloaded the latest version of the JDK SE bundle, JDK 6 Update 17. However, when I downloaded Eclipse for Windows and ran it, it doesn't work. It this because I have a new version of JDK?

Any help would be appreciated!

I'm running Java 7, so I doubt it's because the JDK is "too new".

What kind of error message did you get when trying to run Eclipse?

What does "it doesn't work mean"? Does it start blowing soap bubbles at the other applications running on your computer?

sorry if the question was a bit stupid, but I am a Java newbie so..

Well, when I try to run Eclipse galileo, I get an error window, saying:

JVM terminated,. Exit code=-1
-Dosgi.requiredJavaVersion=1.5
-Xms40m
-Xmx512m

..and so on. It is quite long so I won't write it all down.

Because it said requiredJavaVersion=1.5, I was thinking I needed a v1.5 JDK to run Eclipse.

What do you got when you do "java -version" on the command line?

Now, I get:

java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)
