Problem with initializing two arrays

Hi, I have again reached a dead end in my project.
I'm trying to initialize two big two-dimensional int arrays in the same subroutine, but if I have both arrays there, I get the following compiler error:
Error preverifying class MyGame
VERIFIER ERROR MyGame.stage(I)V:
Illegal target of jump or branch
Commenting any one of them fixes it.
I'm using NetBeans 7.0 with CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0 enabled. Is there a size limit for initializing arrays? If I try initializing both arrays, but have the smaller one initialized as 80x11 instead of 80x25, it builds fine.

This is not an answer to your question (as I don't know the answer), but would you be better off using a data file or files to hold this information and then read in the data at runtime?

Indeed that would be more appropriate, but I don't know how to do that, and I don't even know if it's possible to read external files in J2ME.

PS: I have figured out the problem. The thing is that there's a limit to the bytes of code you can have in each method. I was trying to have all the map arrays initialized into a single method, using a switch to choose among them. All I did was create one method for each array and it worked fine.
