Default HELP -- Looking for Good Tutorial

    Hi All,

Ive been perusing the web using google and bing looking for swing/awt tutorials and I can't find anything newer than 2005.

Im looking for a more up to date tutorial, can somebody PLEASE point me to a more up to date tutorial. I am a relatively advanced c/c++ programmer, and Im ok at java, but never touched this stuff before.

Thanks for any pointers. Relatively new to the forums, so if this is posted else where, I am very sorry, can you point me there?

    Thanks,
    ~David

Trail: Creating a GUI With JFC/Swing (The Java™ Tutorials)

Swing is currently in maintenance mode, so there won't be any feature additions. The next generation GUI library for Java is expected to be JavaFX 2.0, to be released later this year.

    Hi Darryl.Burke,

Thanks alot for the pointer to that tutorial. The tutorials are very comprehensive for everything I would need to do except for 2 things...
    1. I want to have a series of panels/screens that are navigable via buttons.
    2. stream live video (this one I wasn't really expecting to find).

Then you may not have looked at the CardLayout section of the tutorial[

I have to plead ignorance on that one.

nevermind point 1, I've figured that one out through some playing around.

Though it would be nice to have a button that can be pressed, and held, and when its let go, it stops registering things. Example:

While a button is being held, it tags incoming data with a label, when no button is being held, data is just stored untagged.
