Default Lettuce be reality about swing

Swing is basically useless. Are teachers using swing to attract kids to cs? Why don't they teach them things that actually matter such as data structures, writing to registers, or interacting with hardware? They be wasting way too much time on GUIs

    All generalizations are bad. ;)
I wouldn't say useless. It may not be as sexy as some more recent GUI libraries, but it can be used to create stable and maintainable user interfaces.

Let's face it, many kids are attracted to programming via games and want to jump right in programming games. While Swing is not the best way to go about doing this, it's not terrible bad either. If the kid stays interested, he'll move on to the bread and butter topics of programming.

By the way, hope you don't run out of IP addresses.

Notice I said basically useless not completely uselesss lol. I remember in my first java class we learned how to use swing before arrays... This is why people believe 99% of cs majors just make video games. It's misleading to make kids believe that this stereotype is true.

Are you implying a ip ban is coming? Lol I am not even trolling right now, but I don't think an ip ban would work anyways.

and I didn't say cs majors, but rather kids, and by kids I mean HS kids. By the time they're in college, I sure hope they're mostly beyond video games

    Only if you troll.
