Default vechile tracking system with swings?

    Hi,

coming straight to the point,i recently studied java core and i am bit new to world of java "swings",the reason why i am using java swings is to build a desktop application as to build a vechile tracking system and i am using netbeans 6.9.1 to work on them, therefore can you please suggest me from where do i get started, uknow where, i can study in depth swings which would help me in develop my system,i would really appreciate if you could tell me the device by which i can track the vechile(i am droping out the "gps vechile tracker" since it is very expensive),any alternative device by which we can track the vechile? we just have to give an stimulated version of our system

i would be really thankful towards you if you could provide some usefull suggestion, aplogies if the question was too lame

    Kind Regards,
    Manish87

First off, it's Swing, not 'swings'.

    1. Go through the Tutorial: Trail: Creating a GUI With JFC/Swing (The Java™ Tutorials)
    2. Avoid the NetBeans visual designer aka Matisse until you're capable of all aspects of hand-coding a GUI. It may look like a tool for beginners, but it isn't.

I don't think he's saying that, but rather that beginners should not use the NetBeans drag-and-drop GUI creation tool to create their GUI's. The reason is that doing this you will be using potent Swing components without really understanding what you're doing, and the minute you want to extend your application beyond the simplest basic application, you'll have no idea what to do. You're much better off learning Swing from the tutorial that Darryl linked you to, and creating your GUI's by hand. Later as you grow more proficient in Swing, then sure use the NetBeans drag-and-drop GUI creation for rapid prototyping or app creation if desired.

That said, I many here agree (and I think Darryl does too) that NetBeans is a fine IDE.

That's not what I said. Read my post in entirety.
