    "Preference for books"

    Good!

In case of no further replies: use the Amazon user reviews to know which books are good and which are not, they've not steered me wrong yet on any programming related subject.

Start with basic Java (maybe even Processing if you're an absolute beginner). When you really understand the syntax and objects and whatnot, then start working on Android.

I read your thread, and it was a little too "how do I do this?" to answer with anything other than pointing you to google and the basic tutorials. Have you tried those?

Can't go wrong with O'Reilly books. Google has a tendency to radically change their APIs and deprecate the old ways of doing things, so avoid old editions.
