If you have installed the right version of tomcat (service I believe) then you can start it from the commandline by changing directory to tomcat\bin. When you are in this directory type "catalina start".

If you look in tomcat\bin you should have a file called catalina.bat if you have the version that runs as a service. I think the other version of tomcat is usally started and stopped via a gui.

Cheers

Did you try setting the CATALINA HOME variable in the environment variables?

The batch file is called "catalina.bat" and the command to start is "catalina start", not "start catlina" or "start catalina".

Hi nancy,

Can u plz tell us what all the .bat files and other files you have in you bin folder.. Because i faced the same problem and i found the reason for the same as "few batch files where missing in the bin folder".... I hope you have downloaded tomcat from the apache site..
