Please just don't comment in this thread unless you want to work on this project. The details of the project will be decided after everyone has signed up. I will put a week limitation on the sign-up for this project. Just post how much time you are willing to put forth. Just put a time in number of hours per week until the project is done. Don't worry about how much programming experience you have just put your name in it and you will get to be part of something really cool and fun.

While we wait since there is a couple of us lets discuss what project we will to do. I always want to learn about networking and game programming so I was thinking of something like a networked pong game. I don't think this would be to hard to do. Please give me your ideas and we can discuss them. I'm not to strong in networking in java so hopefully one of you is.

I am interested in networking,though i haven't created any simple application that uses it....and also game programming...

I am also interested in DeskTop Application.
Slightly database..(since this is one of my courses this coming semester... and also networking)

I suggest the ff.

Simple safe chat program...(this could be in common)
purpose: to be use in communicating with us soon, as
another project suggested instead of using this
forum.

Simple Java Editor...(this is common nowadays)
purpose: to be able to simplify basic needs the
programmer always used...
basic features:
Can compile & execute Java/A86/C/C++
codes
current line indicator
Syntax highlighting
Fast,efficient and if possible, make it on
top performance.
Jar maker.
Support window(for API browsing)
Templates
Code checker.
Java doc generator....(using javadoc tools)
print,undo,redo find and all basics....

This is related to networking,

IP/TCP Optimizer using Java.
purpose: to optimize such system's internet connection
download/upload time...

and the last one,

An offline role playing game

I like all your suggestions, the chat idea could be useful, but aim and msn are free and we don't have to worry about giving people our IP address. I still like it though. I don't think the other suggestions are very practical though. So hows this for a running list so far.

My suggestions is a Simple File Sharing using Java (Using JavaSE and JavaEE).
1. we must have a server PC
2. client software(with UI) can upload and download files from the server
3. server software monitors everyone who uses the system and saves in a daily log
4. Security, there should be a username and password in connecting to the database(Database required)
5. Admin account can only create users, delete uploaded data (users cannot delete data)(Database required)

6. [Optional] Chatroom for connected users
7. [Optional] Games for User such as network Ping Pong, network chess, or network battle ships =) (Java EE is Optional)
8. [Optional] Local E-mail account for each user (Java EE is Optional)
9. [Optional] Personal Page or Blogs per user (we can use a Java EE for this)

A very mnimal gaming Applet, requiring some sort of [][] movement or clicking, resulting in "Authentication" that avoids the user is a twit morass and circumvents the email and IP spoofing and banners to "Authenticate" using: { Well, at least the respondent is of minimal mental functionality } to reduce the traffic from people who insist on not doing anything useful.

I cannot commit to any specific time amount, this is however central to what I am working on. I would gladly share code with anyone who is interested.

I can give about 4-5 hours per week realistically.

I dont really have any major skills but can contribute J2SE, Servlets, JSP, Javascript, AJAX, XHTML, Tomcat, Apache Axis web services and a little ANT scripting and shell scripting, hmm well that's about it basically.
