What do you mean? you will deploy your windows java application into unix platform?

@ the First paragraph of File Class, you can find the pattern equivalent to "\\".

Then you have to use your own protocol or a library that implements standard protocols. A good library is Apache Commons Net: Net - Apache Commons Net

Supported protocols are:

* FTP
* NNTP
* SMTP
* POP3
* Telnet
* TFTP
* Finger
* Whois
* rexec/rcmd/rlogin
* Time (rdate) and Daytime
* Echo
* Discard
* NTP/SNTP
