Default How to receive SMS using a USB dongle

Hi! Does anybody have a code to receive a SMS using an USB dongle? or else can somebody help me to write a code? I searched in the internet but couldn't find it.

    Note:
This is for an Electrical & Electronic project for my diploma & I have only a very basic knowledge about java and have not learned it. I know C++.
    I'm using Netbeans IDE.

It would great if you could provide the necessary libraries also.

Reading and writing from/to a USB port can be done with RXTX (you can download it here: http://guides.machinescience.org/mod...ss.php?d=263); depending on the SMS chip you're using you have to consult its manual for the details how to communicate with it (probably through 'at' commands).

A similar code for what? Even if I had, the GSM chipsets could be totally different, so the code wouldn't be of any use to you; besides, this forum isn't a code mill.

"I know C++". Yeah the language syntax apparently, but this thread proves that anything else that comes along with C++ development (technical wizardry, research capabilities and problem solving expertise) are not present.

Let me put it differently: all the C++ programmers I have had dealings with TOLD people what to do, they did not hold up their hand and expect to have things handed to them.

To receive a SMS using the USB dongle. I was able to send a SMS using the dongle. I used SMSlib library. I think the difference in dongle manufacturers will not make an issue.

So you basically have this communication chain: PC running Java <---> dongle <---> GSM chip set.

You're using some SMSLib stuff that hides the gory details from you so you basically don't know how to communicate whith the chip set. Read the manuals for that SMSLib stuff.

I'll explain my project further. My project is Automatic Electricity Billing System. The energy consumption value is send as a SMS to the electricity service providers end via a GSM module. The SMS sent by the GSM modem is received by the dongle for billing. I need to extract this SMS and save it in a link list. My question is how can I achieve this in a java program. As I know there are AT commands and manuals for the GSM modem but not for the dongle.

But a dongle doesn't do anything intelligent; it just passes bytes to and from your computer and that GSM device. Simply send the appropriate bytes to that dongle (using RXTX, it can talk to USB devices which happens to be your dongle). If you can do that your linked lists can come in ...
