    Default Java Database advice needed.

    Hello,
I am working on a project, that unavoidably will need some kind of databases. What I need is an advice what to do. What I need is:
    1. multiplatform database (X, OSX, Win)
    2. free and opensource
    3. best to be local (or atleast easy to set on localhost )
    4. easy to be coded with Java
    5.(optional) a simple tutorial link

Any recommendations will be most appreciated.

    How big a database?
As in, what's it going to be used for?
If it's relatively small, and single user only, then look into embedded ones.
There are a few pure-Java ones which are therefore cross-platform.

Good question, but unfortunately, I don`t know. Supposedly there will be human resources storage, but their demands are yet to be obtained so I don`t know exactly, but there will be a database of companies, containing lists of perons with names (2 or 3), numbers, payment, taxes, vats.
The problem is that I am not familiar with DBses so that`s why I am asking this type of question.

Do you have a problem with your machine?
You seem to be double posting an awful lot...

Anyway, you ned to find out exactly what this is going to be used for.

Yes ASUS EEEPC terribly slow. Really sorry about that. Well let`s consider 20-30 mini companies with 50-100 workers... Consider over 2-3 000 records.

(Ah, Mrs Tolls has one of them and it's recently taken to locking up...)

Then you need to know if the database is going to be accessed by more than one user.
If not then I would use an embedded one, but you probably need to do some more analysis of exactly how this thing is going to be used.

Maybe I`ll do some research on DB. It`s my task to make the DBses. So I don`t know maybe there won`t be many logins - consider 1 user/pass per computer, they will have access to the same databese though. So I guess I have to learn locks, but really I need a good place to start database.

If they have access to the same database (ie on a server somewhere) then it will need to be something like MySQL.

Have a look at JavaDB (a.k.a. Derby); it does support multiple users, it has a small footprint and Java 1.6 came bundled with it (I don't know about Java 1.7); it is also completely documented. I use it quite a bit (embedded) and never experienced any problems at all.

    kind regards,

Thanks for advices, I`ve tried MongoDB and it was painless and really easy to use. For now will stick with it.
