HELP! Cant't uninstall Java SE 6 Update 27!
So, this maybe shouldnt be on these forums, but I've gone everywhere else and I can't find a solution. I recently got very angry at my computer and instead of uninstalling Java for reinstallation of Java for Web Start, I just deleted my Java folder in Program Files. I have deleted every file i have been able to link back to Java, every registry log, every log file and hidden file that I can find, but still it shows in my list of programs, and when i click uninstall I get "Fatal Error during installation". Can anyone tell me how to force an uninstall? I REALLY need Java, as I am a Java programmer and am currently without working JDK or JRE.
Re: HELP! Cant't uninstall Java SE 6 Update 27!
Google the error, "Fatal error during installation" and you get lots of results, but none of them fixed it for me. I finally got mine to work by doing the following:
(btw, this was done on 2003 server, steps may be slightly different on other OSs)
In Add/Remove Programs, uninstall ALL versions of Java, including JDK if you have it installed. (Skip any that give you the "Fatal Error")
In \program files\, delete the Java folder
In the registry, look under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall -- Find any keys related to Java, and back them up, then delete them
In the registry, look under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products -- Find any keys related to Java, and back them up, then delete them
It's the 2nd reg location there that was causing the "Fatal Error" on my system. Hope this helps someone else.
*REMINDER* Back up anything you're planning to delete.
