Hey Guys,
Is there a way(by writing code..not using itext or something similar) to extract the bookmarks from a PDF file.
I am trying to create a table of contents in a webpage and the chapters will be links and when clicked on they will go to that page(which are bookmarked) in the PDF.

Getting the bookmarks from a PDF would probably be possible, since they must be part of the file. Have a look at PDF Reference and Adobe Extensions to the PDF Specification | Adobe Developer Connection to see if you can find any docs about how PDF looks there. Whether or not you can directly link to a bookmark from a webpage is an entirely different question though, and not really Java-related.
Apache provides a library to manipulate PDF documents called PDFBox. See Apache PDFBox - PDFBox - PDF Bookmarks for working with bookmarks with this library.
