Extrude help needed

Hi,
Have trawled through the forums but cannot find a simple answer. I want to use an image of a brick wall, use a selector to define an area (eg one brick) and then extrude that brick so that it appears to be coming out of the wall.

I will also need a drop shadow to improve the illusion.

I want to be able to control the size of the extrusion, ie how far out of the wall it appears to be and the direction of the shadow.

Any help greatly appreciated.

thanks for the link db, I have been programming for many years but the is always stuff to learn. Is there a section in the link you gave that has an extrude example?

koonas444, I am not sure what you advice means, Im assuming you are referring to some app? I am writing a program in Java to do what I originally posted.
