    Default Detect USB port signal

Hi, I just want to ask how to detect signal from usb port so that I will know if a usb flash drive is plugged-in?
Also is there a way to run .jar application in a usb once it is plugged-in?

    Thanks in advance

I'm no pro at this, but it may not be as simple as it sounds as it may be OS dependent and require connection to a driver. Is this for use with a Windows computer?

Yes, this will be used on windows XP.
There are also posibilities that this will be used at Windows vista, Windows 7 and Linux.
