Default Impossible or not? restart router through java

    Hey guys ;)

I'm making a remote-panel through RMI (but will change to socket later, it's an RMI with only one function similar with the Socket function).

Have already full acces to Command prompt, and lots more, but I now need a function that would restart the router. Not reset, restart. Yeah, probably pretty impossible... What i Exactly want is the router to cut off the connection with all computers, shutdown, get a new Ip, and finally re-make connection...

I don't think it's possible, but if someone knows something likely, or something that could help me, please tell me. You'd make me very happy =)

    Thx,

What operating system do you have on the router?

Have I understand you right that you want to restart the operating system on the router? If not, which application do you want to restart?

The command prompt you have access to is on the router? What command prompt is it (ms-dos command prompt, linux bash, ...)?

    hey :)

operating system, don't exactly know what you mean with that. what i can say is that it's a U.S. Robotics, (USR8054) with software version V1.17, but i'm gonna upgrade it to V1.21f soon.

no worries, it's just the principe that i need :) if it wors with V1.17, i think i could handle the V1.21f.

Command prompt, it's just the windows ms-dos cmd. Nothing special, and in fact, the whole program is designed for one network, so you can easily use your own command prompt if needed.

And yes you have understood me well ;) software needs to restart.

    Thx!

Can you reset your router without using Java and without physically switching the router off and on again? If so show us how you do it, then we can maybe advise you to do it with Java.

    kind regards,

    Jos

ps. and please don't use that many smilies in your posts; they make them look like a Christmas tree and it is confusing (at least me)

Okey sry. I'm thinking all day how to, but I just can't find it. I'll maybe try contacting USR if maybe i could see the software codes, maybe there is a function but isn't used or something likely... don't know, i'll try.
