Not a Swing problem, so I'm moving this thread. This bit of information in the error message is intriguing:

The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code.
Do you happen to have native code linked with your program via JNI, or something similar? If so, you may want to look for the bug there.

This is the moved thread...if you look at the top of the page you'll see you're now in Advanced Java.

As for what's going on, it's almost impossible to tell away from your machine.
Does this happen on other machines?

As Fubarable asks, do you have it doing native stuff?
Or do you have it interacting with, say , the Javascript engine of the browser?

Because that's what it looks like is causing the problem.

You can be sure it was doing native stuff; it was executing stuff outside the jvm (as the error message stated) here:

    # C [mshtml.dll+0x78404]
The 'C' means native code and the program counter was at position 0x78404 somewhere in that mshtml.dll. And that's where havoc happened (a segmentation violation).

    kind regards,

    Jos

Oh yes, but if this is an applet I think it would hit that anyway?
That's the HTML library I think, for IE.

    Looking at this bit:
    C [jp2iexp.dll+0x3179]
    j sun.plugin2.main.server.IExplorerPlugin.javaScript ReleaseObject(Lsun/plugin2/liveconnect/BrowserSideObjectV+4
    j sun.plugin2.main.server.LiveConnectSupport$PerPlug inInfo.releaseAllObjects()V+34
    j sun.plugin2.main.server.LiveConnectSupport.shutdow n(I)V+42
    j sun.plugin2.main.server.JVMInstance.unregisterAppl et(I)V+63

It seems to be trying to shutdown the applet and inform the browser of this, and that's when it goes bang.

It's possible it's a bug between the browser and the plugin, but without knowing what's actually going on it's hard to tell. That this is something after it's been running for hours could imply a leak in one fo the stock DLLs, say.
