Is there a problem with Derby?

Hello everybody! I'm have a trouble with the system variables. I was working with Derby. I created the variables that Derby requires (DERBY_PATH,...and so on), it worked very good for a while then I couldn't connect the database so I looked for the variables and they disappered! I don't know why but it's very important for me to solve this problem! Is there a problem with Derby? or is my computer wrong?

Please help me, bye.
