problems sun.net.ftp.FtpClient

I am using sun.net.ftp.FtpClient to connect to ftp server.
My problem is if the ftp server is down then, after a specified amount of time program should throw TimeoutException and should stop execution

This class isn't supported, much less adequately documented. Do you really need to use it? Are you interested in downloading or uploading with ftp?

For ftp downloading, you should just URL objects.
