event calendar

Hi
I am working on a project where i need to put an event calendar in my project.The calendar must be able to connect to the data base so that it can track if any specific event exists in database for that particular date.Can anybody help me ,how can i accomplish this.

Well
m workin on a web application where i need to save an activity or event.So say if a person saves his/her event/activity then eventually when he/she will view the calendar it will highlight the calendar days corresponding to his/her events or activities.So this calendar needs a database connectivity.
I am almost done with my application.This is the last section i m left with.I am messed up as i have never ever used event calendar.I donnot know whether to use an applet or javascript inorder to create an event cal.Can you please tell me what should i use.I even googled a lot but that thing didnt help me.
Thts why i have raised the question here.Hope you can help me
