can we change label from action class?

Hi,
1)I have to change a label in the jsp page from my acton class.
2)I want to close a popup window from the action class of that popup by not using script "window.close();"
Is these possible? If so please provide the code line?

Take some time to think through what activities are happening on the server and in the browser. Your action class has no direct involvement with the content in the browser. Closing a pop-up window has to be done with Javascript.
