    Smile Ideas for Java Project

    Hi All,

I am planning to start with some project involving things like Java,JDBC,Hibernate,Spring and MySQL as database. The purpose of the project will be to gain expertise on these technologies  .

    Anyone has any idea?

    Thanks in advance,

A couple of things that are important come to mind:
    • It must be something that you like and want to program.
    • It could be something that you have encountered and found that could be improved... made better.

    hhhmmm... like world peace? :)

    Luck,

    Thanks for the update CJSL.

There are many ideas that come to my mind right now. But I wish to work on something that can be finished in max 2 weeks or so.

    • How about a registration app for some sort of event/contest that is reusable from one event to the next and keeps the results in the database.
    • or a inventory system that reminds when stocks get to a certian level so reordering can be done
    • or a supermarket cashier program, which could include inventory management

    What ideas do you have?

    Luck,

How about take any one of those ding-dong $400
appplications that are supposed to make a task
easier, yet feature a GUI with approximately
1 bizillion buttons, reduce it to only a few major
    functions.

For example, I used to be impressed by "Word",
but now I usually use notepad.

    Hey -

Lol -I had to do that exact application in my second Java course, that was a fun time. We also had to organize the run ways/gate usage incoming and outgoing flights from our airport and other airports (the teachers) input data to optimize our airports traffic flow.

If you are not already familiar with these technologies, I would just write a bunch of 'hello world' programs to explore each of them.

Then, utilize the computer for it's ultimate goal - to store recipes - in a database of course, accessed with JDBC (via an ODBC-JDBC bridge naturally). I don't even know what hibernate or spring are, but I'm sure they'll simplify the task of storing recipes.

    Edit:
Prob would've been a little funnier if the rest of the post would've shown up.

Anyways, great Java MySQL tutorial here. What I used to first understand the relationship and what was needed...
