I thought for a minute he was talking about pounds as in the money they use in England, but now I'm not so sure. Area to pounds as in weight, doesn't make sense useless you were talking about *volume* to pounds, and then you could only do it if you know a base weight (in example 1 gram per centimeter squared or whatever). If you are talking about area to pounds as in money, you must be talking about cloth or paper or some other flat material (in example 1 yard of cotton = 2 dollar, 2 pounds, whatever). Either way, it's just a bit of multiplication, not too complicated.
