wahoo them are fight'n words to a Linux C++ programmer. The only reason that visual C++ is the standard for Windows is because Microsoft owns the compiler and the operating system. Java is different. Sun owns the compiler but not the OS's that Java runs on. OK they own one of them.
So in short find an IDE that has the tools and features that you like and go with it. Unfortunately we do not always know what we like until we have experience and that takes time.
